More noise, this time at Tonic.. First up Prurient, shirt off microphone feedback through distortion boxes, boring. Next was Toshio Kajiwara who did a electronics/feedback type thing, didn't really like the first half and he kept changing the focus, towards the end there was some nice bits. Met him afterwards, he runs the phenomena night downstairs. Seems like all the people I'm meeting that can get gigs and are contacts I'm meeting just as I'm about to leave. Third was White Rok which consisted of Mouthus plus Mike & Maya from Double Leopards. They got into a pretty good groove for a bit there with everything droning/making noise on top. The drummer couldn't change grooves or speed up towards the end so they kind of lost momentum but enjoyable for a decent portion, much more than Mouthus alone. Finally Hotogisu the act I'd come to see featuring Matthew Bower (Skullflower/ Total/ Sunroof!/ veritable noise legend) and Marcia from Double Leopards who appears to be his partner. They did the drone/noise/feedback quite well and loud, the way it should be done. Matthew got into a bit of stretching ritual like poses before playing a harmonica through Z.Vex Machine into a Metalzone, Zoom pedal and amp, various bursts of mic feedback then to guitar at the end. Marcia had a guitar lying on its back with 2 ebows, bowls, bells and mic in her mouth through lots of delays pedals. Beautiful, high freq detailed, flattening scree.
